Rock Climbing in Wadi Gnai: Dahab Beyond the Two-Hour Safari

Wadi Gnai—also written Qnai or Gnai—is Dahab’s best-known climbing area, a short drive from town. Local climbing guides describe sport crags, top-rope areas, bouldering fields and mixed routes in sectors such as Waterfalls, Connection, Camel Canyon and Little Hampi.
Outdoor granite is not an indoor wall. Holds break, approaches are uneven, sun changes the rock temperature and mobile reception can be weak. Use a local climbing guide, check the current route information and inspect equipment before leaving town.
Beginners can try a supervised top-rope session; experienced climbers should still ask about bolt condition, descent and whether a route mixes trad and fixed protection. Bring more water than a gym session suggests, plus sun protection and a layer for shaded winter crags.
The best day in Gnai is not the one with the biggest grade. It is the one that ends with safe movement, clean rock ethics and enough energy for the walk out.
