Hiking from the Blue Hole to Ras Abu Galum

The coastal path from the Blue Hole to Ras Abu Galum is one of the clearest ways to feel how quickly Dahab gives way to protected wilderness. Egypt’s official tourism information describes the walk as roughly an hour and a half, but pace, heat and stops can make it longer.
The route follows the Gulf of Aqaba with mountains on one side and reef on the other. Start early, carry water and sun protection, and do not count on shade. A local guide helps with the route, protectorate arrangements and the return plan.
At Ras Abu Galum, slow down. Snorkelling, tea and a simple meal make more sense than arriving only to leave immediately. Services are basic and that is part of the place, not a problem to be “fixed.”
Return options may include hiking, boat or locally arranged transport depending on weather and current rules. Confirm everything before setting out rather than improvising at sunset.
