Underwater Photography in Dahab: Choose the Dive Site for the Lens
.jpg?width=1600)
Dahab offers very different underwater frames within a small area, so choose the site for the lens instead of carrying every idea into every dive.
For wide angle, walls and coral architecture at Bells, the Blue Hole, Canyon, Islands or Gabr el Bint can work well when conditions and diver level match the site. Use a diver for scale without placing anyone on coral.
For smaller subjects, slow shore dives at Lighthouse or Eel Garden allow more time to observe behaviour. Do not move animals, block an eel’s retreat or touch coral for stability. A good photograph is never worth damaging the subject.
Make the first dive a scout when possible. Learn entry, light and route before adding heavy task loading. Prepare camera settings on land, secure equipment and keep gas, depth and buddy awareness ahead of the shot. The best underwater photographers return with both images and an untouched reef.
